How does this work?
You email me a title for a piece. I make a piece out of your title, and put it on this site. I sometimes run low on titles so every submission is appreciated.

Besides sending you titles, how can I help?
The best thing you could do is let a friend who might enjoy it know about the page. I have chosen not to use traditional forms of promotion and so word of mouth helps a lot.

So I shouldn't send you money or anything?
Although I might decide to set up a paypal donation system eventually, the truth is that there are many people in the world who need your money a lot more than I do.

You spelled something wrong.
I use titles exactly as they are submitted, including any punctuation and spelling anomalies.

Can't you make the file sizes any smaller?
I thought about this issue a great deal when I was first making the site, and the short answer is no. I do realize long loading time is a serious drawback, and watching the image download one line at a time gives you a different impression than it would if it loaded faster and you could take it in all at once. I strongly dislike this consequence of large file sizes. However, most of the work on this site does not lend itself well to compression. Pictures with a lot of random grain/noise tend to lose a lot of sharpness and contrast under medium or high compression, and the limitations on number of simultaneous colors often result in color distortion. For example, trying to save The Leaves were Beating Me in a Race... with higher compression made the gray/blue tone in the background look very purple and the gray/yellow tone of the leaves look very green. It's likely that this wouldn't have had a profound impact on anyone's enjoyment of the piece, but it bothered me enough that I decided to save it as a larger picture with colors closer to the colors I chose in making it.
The other reason is even less artistic and more pretentious: I've been optimizing images for small file size since I started doing web design and I can no longer stand sacrificing image quality for download speeds, especially on artwork. I feel that after I spend three to ten or more hours on a piece, it is not asking too much for someone to spend an extra minute or two to see it as I intended it to be seen.

I looked at a picture, then a couple days later looked again and it was different.
Often, after a piece has been up a couple of days and I have had a chance to go back and look at it with more perspective, I decide to make small changes in it which I feel improve it.

Can I print out one of your pictures?
Yes. Printing, downloading, making into desktop pictures, et cetera are all okay as long as you don't make any money off them. The condition is you have to email me and tell me which one you used and why you liked it.

How long does it take to do one of these pieces?
It varies, of course. And I usually like to work over a few days. Simpler ones only take a couple hours, If an angel lost its wings... and one, two, three, four each took over ten hours.

What program do you use?
I use Photoshop almost exclusively.

Do my monitor settings make a difference?
Yes. Turn your monitor's contrast all the way up. Now adjust your brightness until you see an oval in the box below, but the background is one solid color.

Can you do my band's album cover?
I would love to design a CD case or book jacket or whatever. Email me and we'll work out a deal. It is not acceptable to send in your band title as a title and then steal the piece for your CD cover without asking.

I can't think of any brilliant titles.
So send me just pretty good titles. I respond to every email individually (unfortunately I cannot respond to every automatic submission individually, but I will email you if and when I use your title) and I appreciate any titles you feel like sending me. I am always short on titles.

Can I send you some of my work?
Of course you can, and I would love to see it. I have already seen some very good stuff from viewers of this site and I enjoy talking art with them.

Who/what inspires you?
Every piece is inspired by my life.
The feedback I get from people who respond to the works is what motivates me to continue the site.
There are also artists to whom I am artistically indebted. If you like what you see here you should definitely spend some time with these artists' work.
